The History That Never Left
What began as a six-room stagecoach stop became something far more.
The Rider family raised generations within these walls. Settlers filled every available space — rooms, hallways, and even outside beneath their wagons when the inn overflowed.
Soldiers from the War of 1812, the Battle of Lake Erie era, and the Civil War sought shelter here. Some came to hide. Some came to heal. Some may never have fully left.
Those escaping slavery are believed to have hidden in the cellar before moving through tunnels beneath the property toward the train tracks or the lake on their journey toward freedom in Canada.
With that much history, pain, fear, hope, life, and death held inside one building…
No one truly knows how many people passed through these walls.
Or how many never left.
